What 0800 numbers are, and who uses them
Bank fraud and lost-card lines, insurers, utilities, government helplines and most large consumer brands. If a UK organisation publishes one number for its customers to call for free, it is usually an 0800 or an 0808.
Inside the UK: Free from UK landlines and UK mobiles. That has been true since July 2015, when Ofcom made freephone genuinely free from mobiles as well.

Worth knowing before you rely on it
