Terms of Service
The short version: buy credit, call any phone in the world, pay for the minutes you use. Your credit does not expire, unused credit is refundable, bonus credit is not, and we cannot reach emergency services.
1. Who we are and what this covers
Airlophone lets you place telephone calls from a web browser to ordinary phone numbers. These terms are the agreement between you and Airlophone (“we”, “us”) whenever you use the service. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
Airlophone is operated by EchoForge. Questions about these terms go to [email protected].
- Trading name: Airlophone
- Operator: EchoForge
- Contact: [email protected]
Calls are carried over the networks of our telecommunications carriers, currently Telnyx and Twilio, and we choose between them per call on measured line quality. Payments are processed by Stripe, and your card details go to Stripe directly rather than to us. Who we share what with, and why, is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.
2. Emergency calls
Airlophone cannot be used to call emergency services. We cannot connect 911, 999, 112, 000 or any other emergency number, and we cannot pass your location to an emergency dispatcher. Airlophone is not a replacement for a mobile or a landline. Keep a phone that can reach emergency services and do not rely on this service in an emergency.
3. Your account
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract. Keep your login details to yourself; calls placed from your account are billed to your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
We may ask you to verify your identity, your payment method or your phone number before we allow calling, before we raise a limit, or where we suspect fraud.
4. Credit, prices and billing
- The service is prepaid. You buy credit in advance and calls draw down against it.
- Your credit does not expire. It stays on your account until you spend it or ask for it back.
- Every destination has a published per-minute price, shown before you dial and again on the keypad as you type the number.
- Calls are billed with a one minute minimum, then per second. Time on hold is time on the call and is billed the same way.
- Prices can change. We will publish the new price before it applies to you, and a change never applies to a call already in progress.
- If your credit runs out during a call, the call ends. We will warn you before that happens where we can.
5. Bonus credit
Larger top-ups earn bonus credit on top of the credit you paid for. The exact amount is shown against each figure before you pay, in dollars, and it does not increase above the top rung.
Your balance therefore has two parts, and we show them separately: the credit you bought, and the bonus credit we gave you. Both buy calls at exactly the same published prices, and neither expires.
The difference between them is what happens to money:
- Calls always draw down the credit you bought first, and only use bonus credit once that is exhausted.
- Bonus credit is not refundable and cannot be paid out. You did not pay for it, so there is nothing to return.
- If you take a refund, any bonus credit still on your account is removed at the same time. The bonus was earned by making a purchase, so undoing the purchase undoes the bonus with it. We tell you this before you confirm a refund, not after.
6. Refunds
Unused credit is refundable. Ask us and we will return the unspent balance to the payment method you used, normally within five to ten business days depending on your bank.
If a call fails to connect, drops, or the audio is bad enough that you could not do what you called to do, tell us and we will credit it back. The first minute of your first call is free and needs no card, so a service that does not work for you costs you nothing.
We do not refund:
- Credit already spent on calls that connected and worked.
- Bonus credit, which is removed rather than paid out when you take a refund. See section 5.
- Accounts we have suspended or closed for fraud, abuse or a breach of section 7.
None of this limits any refund or cancellation right you have under the consumer law where you live.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Airlophone to:
- Break the law of your country or the country you are calling.
- Harass, threaten, defraud or deceive anyone, including impersonating a person, a bank or a public body.
- Place automated, bulk, recorded or unsolicited marketing calls, operate a dialler, or run a call centre without our written agreement.
- Generate artificial traffic to premium-rate or revenue-share numbers, whether or not you profit from it.
- Resell the service, share an account across people, or work around account limits.
- Record a call where recording it without consent would be unlawful for you. Recording law depends on where each party is; that assessment is yours to make.
We block premium-rate and other high-risk number ranges outright, and we apply spending and destination limits to new accounts. We may suspend an account immediately where we see fraud or a risk to the network, and we will tell you why when we can.
8. What we can and cannot promise
Calls travel over the internet and then over telephone networks we do not own. We work hard on route quality, but we cannot guarantee that every call connects, that audio is always clear, or that the service is never interrupted. Your own internet connection matters a great deal here.
Some destinations, number ranges and services are unavailable, and that list changes as carriers change their rules.
9. Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Subject to that, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the credit on your account plus the amount you spent with us in the three months before the claim.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including business loss, missed opportunities, or the consequences of a call that failed to connect.
10. Ending the agreement
You can stop using Airlophone and ask for your unused credit back at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and we may withdraw the service with reasonable notice, in which case we refund unused credit.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will tell you before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.
12. Governing law
Governing law and jurisdiction to be inserted. Your rights as a consumer in your own country are unaffected.
