01Their prices

What T-Mobile charges

Calling out of the US
$15 a month for Stateside International Talk. Unlimited calls from the US to landlines in 70+ countries and mobiles in 30+, plus unlimited texting. Without it, the rate is set per country and no starting figure is published anywhere on their site.
Calls while abroad
$0.50 a minute across 215+ destinations. Calls inside Canada and Mexico are included rather than billed at that rate.
Data while abroad
Up to 15 GB high speed on their top plans, 5 GB on the mid tiers, then up to 256 Kbps. Included, so it costs nothing extra if you hold one of those plans.

02Passes

What a pass costs per gigabyte

A pass is the only thing on their card that compares like for like against a travel eSIM: a fixed price, a fixed allowance and a fixed window. The per-gigabyte column is their own two figures divided, not a number we assigned.

PassPricePer GB
1 day, 2 GB$10$5.00
10 days, 15 GB$50$3.33
30 days, 30 GB$75$2.50

The short pass is the dear one, which is the opposite of how most people buy them. A single travel day costs $5.00 a gigabyte.

03Ours

What you pay instead

Calls from $0.02 a minute with no monthly fee and no carrier account. 167 of our 482 published bands cost less than the $0.50 a minute T-Mobile charges for a call placed abroad, and every rate is published before you sign up.

Where they win: if your plan already includes 5 to 15 GB abroad, that allowance costs you nothing extra and nothing here beats free. Their 30-day pass is also closer to our prices per gigabyte than the one-day pass is, and on some destinations it wins outright.

05Questions

What does T-Mobile charge for international calls?

It depends which of two products you mean. Calling another country while you are in the US is international long distance: T-Mobile sells Stateside International Talk at $15 a month per line, and without it the rate is set per country and is not published as a table or as a starting figure anywhere on their site. Using your own phone while you are abroad is roaming, billed at $0.50 a minute across 215+ destinations.

Does T-Mobile include data when you travel?

Yes, and it is the strongest thing on their card. Their higher plans include up to 15 GB of high-speed data in 215+ destinations and the mid tiers 5 GB, after which the connection continues at up to 256 Kbps rather than stopping. If you already pay for one of those plans, that allowance costs you nothing extra and is very hard to beat.

How much is a T-Mobile International Pass?

$10 for 2 GB over 1 day, $50 for 15 GB over 10 days, $75 for 30 GB over 30 days. Worked out per gigabyte that is $5.00, $3.33, $2.50 respectively, so the short pass is the expensive one, which is the opposite of how people usually buy them.

Do I need to be a T-Mobile customer?

For every option on this page, yes. The plan, the add-on, the roaming rate and the passes all require a T-Mobile line and a T-Mobile handset. Prepaid credit and a travel eSIM do not: they work on whatever carrier you are already with, or on none.
