How to dial China

China numbers are dialled as +86 followed by the national number, without the leading 0.

Drop the leading 0 from an area code. Beijing's 010 becomes +86 10. Mobile numbers start 1 and never carried a zero.

A number written in China as 131 XXXX XXXX is dialled from abroad as +86 131 XXXX XXXX.

From this tab there is no exit code and no carrier: type it starting +86 and the price appears before anything dials.

Dialling it from an ordinary phone instead

Dial the exit code for where you are standing, then 86, then the number.

Common questions

How much does it cost to call China?

Basic calls to China start at $0.79/min for landline and mobile. From a US caller ID: landline $0.79/min, mobile $0.79/min. Professional adds $0.02/min to paid calls, whether recording is on or off. Connected calls are billed per minute, with part of a minute counting as a full minute. Enter the number to see its exact price before calling.

What is the country code for China?

The international dialling code for China is +86. On Airlophone you can type the full international number starting with +86, or pick China from the country list and enter the national number without its leading 0.

How do I call China from the US?

From a US or Canadian phone, dial 011, then 86, then the China number. From the UK, Ireland and most of Europe the exit code is 00 instead, and from Australia it is 0011. Drop the leading 0 from an area code. Beijing's 010 becomes +86 10. Mobile numbers start 1 and never carried a zero. For example, a number written in China as 131 XXXX XXXX is dialled from the US as 011 86 131 XXXX XXXX. On Airlophone there is no exit code at all: the call is placed from a browser tab, so you type the number starting with +86 and the price for that exact number appears before anything dials.

Do I need an app or a SIM card to call China?

No. Airlophone runs in a browser tab, so there is nothing to install and no SIM to buy. The person you call needs nothing either: the call arrives on the ordinary phone network, so their phone simply rings, whether it is a landline or a mobile and whether or not they have internet.
